Schueberfouer

The Schueberfouer 2010 takes place from August 20th to September 8th.
The Schueberfouer, funfair of the city of Luxembourg, is also the biggest funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region with over 2 million visitors a year. Taking place annually from end of august until early September at the huge Glacis-field in the heart of the city of Luxembourg, it attracts as well Luxembourgish than foreign people who fall under the unique charm of the "Fouer" as the Luxembourgish call their funfair with love.

It was Joan the Blind who founded the Schueberfouer in 1340 as annual market. With the years the market turned into a funfair without loosing its cultural origins.
At the Schueberfouer, popular event "par excellence", Luxembourgish people meet Non-Luxembourgish people, eat and drink, enjoy themselves on the traditional rides like the more than hundred-year-old wooden horse merry-go-round, on the auto scooters or by enjoying the typical luxembourgish Gromperkichelcher or the famous waffles with cream and strawberries, and why not, feet over head on board of one of the latest funfair thrill machines.

Because the Schueberfouer is not only the oldest luxembourgish tradition still celebrated nowadays, it is also a "haut-lieu" of a popular kitchen and of innovation. A lot of rides had their Première in Luxembourg and got baptized here.
So the City of Luxembourg, as the organizer of the Schueberfouer, tries every year again to propose to the visitors a challenging mix of tradition, gastronomy and sensational rides. Beneath, this mix is unique under that form in Europe.
